Brazil qualify perfectly for the World Cup

The Brazilian national team have again won a maximum of three points in the qualifying zone for the Conmebol 2022 World Cup, against Colombia 1-0 on Friday (12/11) WIB morning, at the Corinthians Arena. The victory confirms Brazil’s decision to qualify for the Qatar World Cup next year.

Lucas Paqueta’s instinctive shot gave Brazil the victory while extending Team Samba’s unbeaten streak.

Brazil produced an almost perfect qualifying campaign. The Samba team won 11 of the 12 matches. The only goalless draw was against Colombia last month.

The five-time world champions join hosts as well as European teams from Germany and Denmark who have already booked tickets for next year’s finals.

“This is the result of the work that we have been building for some time,” said Lucas Paqueta.

“Now I have to keep working hard to find my place” in the World Cup squad, “he added.

Brazil had problems because Colombia had the best game in the first half. But a change in attacking tactics by coach Tite in the first half paid off as Selecao – as Brazil are called – dominated after the break.

Colombia’s loss saw them lose four automatic qualifying positions in the South American singles group as Chile overtook them after their third straight win, 1-0 away from Paraguay.

With 34 points, Brazil is 18 points ahead of Colombia, which occupies 5th place in the standings. Los Cafeteros will not be able to catch up with Seleçao’s points as they only have 5 games left.

This certainty also means that Brazil continues the tradition of appearing in the World Cup. Since its first edition in 1930, the Seleçao is the only team to have always participated. They were superior to Germany which had not participated twice, namely in 1930 and 1950.

At the World Cup, Brazil is still the most successful. The Seleçao are the winners of the greatest number of titles. They became champions in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. Their collection of titles is still above Italy and Germany, who have won 4 times.

In the qualifying format used, this is the first time they have qualified for the World Cup finals with 6 matches to go.

The Selecao are also now expected to break the record for most points in the World Cup qualifiers in the Conmebol zone. In 2002, the Argentine national team qualified for South Korea / Japan with 43 points. At that time, La Albiceleste was 13 points ahead of the Selecao who finished in second place.

Brazil’s chance to match or even break the record is wide open as they have already accumulated 34 points. This means that they only need 10 points from the remaining 6 games. (Mal / AFP / OL-6)
