West Ham United center-back Angelo Ogbonna suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in the 3-2 Premier League win over Liverpool last weekend, the East London club announced on Tuesday . West Ham said Monday’s scans showed damage to Ogbonna’s right knee, but stressed the Italy international has started his recovery.
“Having been replaced following a separate incident that resulted in an injury above his eye, Angelo felt discomfort in his right knee, so we scanned him to determine the extent of the injury,” said said the club’s chief medical officer, Richard Collinge.
“The scans showed damage to the anterior cruciate ligament and we immediately rehabilitated him. Angelo will see another specialist this week and after that we will have a clearer picture of his recovery time.”
West Ham rose to third in the Premier League table after beating Liverpool, which also ended the Merseyside club’s 25-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. David Moyes’ side will then travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 20 after the international break. (OL-8)
