Israel says it dropped Hamas drone from Gaza

Iron Dome Defense System Israel intercepted Monday (8/11) a drone launched from Gaza by Hamas leaders in the territory Palestinesaid the soldier.

“Not long ago, a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) belonging to the terrorist organization Hamas approached the Gaza sea area and was intercepted,” he said in a statement.

The IDF has already shot down Hamas drones, including during the 11-day conflict in May.

They have frequently responded to actions by Hamas which appear to oppose airstrikes targeting Islamic sites in the Gaza Strip.

But tensions, which intensified during the fighting in May, have eased in recent weeks.

Israel – which has imposed a crippling blockade on Gaza since 2007, when Hamas took power – has authorized the redistribution of financial aid from Qatar to Gaza.

The Jewish state has also increased the number of work permits for Gazans to enter Israel and allowed more building materials to enter the Strip. This is part of a series of actions aimed at maintaining the fragile calm. (AFP / OL-14)
