ASTON Villa have announced the sacking of Dean Smith as head coach, just two days after the team lost 1-0 to Southampton on Sunday (7/11).
The result was the fifth consecutive defeat for Villa, who have won just three of their eleven Premier League appearances this season. Smith became the third Premier League coach to be sacked last week after Nuno Espirito Santo at Tottenham Hotspur and Daniel Farke at Tottenham, Norwich City.
Smith’s sacking ended his tenure which began in October 2018. He managed to get Villa to a promotion ticket to the Premier League in his debut season, before advancing to the League Cup final. English 2019/20. “After a good start last season, this year we have not seen any continuous improvement in terms of results, performance or standings,” said Christian Purslow, CEO of Villa.
“For this reason, we have decided to change now so that the new head coach has time to make an impact.”
Villa currently sits 15th in the table with just ten points from eleven games played. The result was more or less influenced by the death of Villa’s match, Jack Grealish, who was bought as the Premier League’s most expensive player by Manchester City. Villa tried to make up for Grealish’s departure by bringing in Emiliano Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, but the move was relatively unsuccessful on the pitch. (OL-8)
