Chalobah signs new contract with Chelsea

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah on Thursday (4/11) signed a 4.5-year contract extension with Premier League leaders.

Chalobah, who can also play as a midfielder, has managed to secure his place in Thomas Tuchel’s first team since making his debut in the UEFA Super Cup game against Villarreal in August.

The 22-year-old defender has made 10 appearances for Chelsea and scored against Crystal Palace in his first appearance at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s amazing. It’s my dream to sign a long term contract with my childhood club,” Chalobah said.

“This season has been very amazing from the start. I really didn’t expect it. It just goes to show that working hard and playing at another club on loan can work.”

“I try to get the attention of the coach in the preseason and then bring that performance to every game.”

Chalobah is the last young Englishman to leave Chelsea academy after Mason Mount, Reece James, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tammy Abraham.

Chelsea manager Marina Granovskaia said: “Seeing Trevoh join many of our academy graduates in the first team makes us as a club very proud.”

“His performances at the start of the season as well as his attitude and professionalism impressed us and we are very happy to be able to reward his performances with a long-term contract.” (AFP / OL-1)
