DUSAN Vlahovic brought Fiorentina back on their way to victory after beating Spezia 3-0 in the 11th Italian League game at Artemio Franchi stadium on Sunday 31/10. The Serbian striker scored a hat-trick against Spezia to treat injuries to Fiorentina who lost last week at home to Lazio.
Vlahovic opened the hosts’ lead a minute before half-time by converting a penalty after VAR ruled Emmanuel Gyasi had a hand inside the box. Vlahovic’s left-footed strike pierced the visitors’ goal again in the 62nd minute after completing Alvaro Odriozola’s pass to double Fiorentina’s advantage.
In the 74th minute, he completed his three-goal streak after using Jose Callejon’s pass, this time using his right foot which cheated goalkeeper Ivan Provedel. This hat trick caused Vlahovic to take off his jersey while celebrating, so he received a yellow card from referee Antonio Giua.
After Vlahovic scored a hat-trick, Fiorentina made at least four more attempts but failed to increase the lead, while Spezia barely moved. This victory brings Fiorentina back to seventh place in the standings with 18 points after being overtaken by Verona (15) who won the day before.
Meanwhile, Spezia, who failed to add to his eight-point collection, fell into the relegation zone to take 18th place, according to the Italian League’s official website. In another game that took place at the same time at the MAPEI stadium, Empoli also returned to victory after beating host Sassuolo 2-1.
Empoli fell behind on a goal against his own Lorenzo Tonelli two minutes into the half, but they came back to snatch two goals in stoppage time to turn the game around for the win. Andrea Pinamonti equalized for the visitors with a penalty in the 83rd minute after Patrick Cutrone was fouled by Vlad Chirices.
In the second minute of added time, Szymon Zurkowski returned to Empoli, scoring a free kick from Liam Henderson for a spectacular 2-1 victory over Sassuolo. Empoli climbed to 10th place with 15 points, supplanting Sassuolo (14) who has now slipped to 12th place.
Meanwhile, at Luigi Ferraris, Genoa and Venezia shared the points after closing the game 0-0. An extra point keeps Genoa out of the relegation zone by moving up to 17th place with eight points conceded, while Venice (9) does not move exactly one level above. (OL-8)
