First time without Koeman, Barcelona only draw against Alaves

BARCALONA failed to secure all three points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Alaves in the Spanish League Week 12 game at Camp Nou stadium on Sunday (10/31) WIB.

Undergoing the first game after the sacking of Ronald Koeman, Barca, accompanied by interim coach Sergi Barjuan, could only score one goal contributed by Memphis Depay in the 49th minute.

Only able to add one point after having obtained a draw, Barça now occupy ninth position in the Spanish League standings with 16 points.

The decision to sack Koeman from Barcelona does not appear to produce any significant improvement. Although this result is slightly better than the two consecutive defeats Barca suffered before.

In the game, Barca actually did quite well where the Blaugrana – Barca’s nickname – dominated 78% possession and pulled 16 scoring chances.

It is not known for sure if Barjuan will still accompany Barça during the trip to Kiev during the Champions League match on Wednesday (3/11). But club president Joan Laporta said that was the current plan.

Speaking of the match results, Barjuan admitted that it is not an easy thing to immediately change teams for the best results. “It is difficult to change the situation in a short time,” Barjuan said by AFP on Sunday (10/31).

Alaves’ goal was scored by Luis Roja just 3 minutes after Barcelona’s goal. With an extraordinary performance beating goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegan, La Roja managed to kick the ball into an unoccupied goal.

Barca nearly doubled their advantage in the 60th minute, but unfortunately Depay’s action breaking through Alaves’ defense ended with the anticipation of goalkeeper Antonio Sivera.

In the remaining time, no additional goals were created and the game ended 1-1. (AFP / OL-13)
