City eliminated from the League Cup, Guardiola promises to do better next year

PEP Guardiola have vowed that next year Manchester City will come back stronger after being knocked out of the English League Cup after losing 3-5 on penalties to West Ham United in the fourth round at the Olympic Stadium in London, Thursday (28/10) early morning WIB.

The defeat ruined City’s chances of setting a new record after winning the competition in the past four seasons.

“A great journey has ended, but we ended it the right way,” Guardiola said after the game, quoted on City’s official website.

“We played really well, creating chances against a team that used deep defense.”

“Unfortunately on penalties they were better. Congratulations to West Ham. Next year we will be back,” he added.

Guardiola was not shy about praising West Ham who he says has continued to show improvement in appearances at least over the past two seasons.

“Also last season, one of our toughest games at home when the visitors were the best was against West Ham,” he said.

“They have performed well in the Premier League and the Europa League, now they have reached the quarter-finals. A fantastic team with an amazing manager.”

The exit from the League Cup more or less offers City the opportunity to focus on competing in the English Premier League and fulfill the long dream of the owner’s consortium, City Football Group, of winning the Champions League trophy. (Ant / OL-1)
