Beat Leeds, Arsenal advance to League Cup quarter-finals

ARSENAL helped Leeds United advance to the quarter-finals of the English League Cup after claiming a 2-0 victory over their visitors in the last 16 games at Emirates Stadium in London on Wednesday (27 / 10) early in the morning.

Mikel Arteta’s bet gave Edward Nketiah the chance to lead Arsenal’s line and was paid off by the 22-year-old forward by scoring the Gunners’ second in the 69th minute.

Starting off with a long pass from goalkeeper Bernd Leno, which the Leeds defense didn’t fully anticipate, Nketiah faced goalkeeper Illan Meslier one-on-one.

Nketiah then tricked the ball over Meslier’s head which came out of its nest and the round skin then nestled into the Leeds goal. It was Nketiah’s seventh goal in eight League Cup games.

Previously, Arsenal’s lead had been opened by Calum Chambers in the 55th minute as the defender had really come in to replace injured Ben White.

Nketiah’s corner missed a corner from Emile Smith-Rowe but a wild ball was returned by Nicolas Pepe to the far post, where Chamber directed it over the line.

Leeds struggled to score a return goal but hardly made it so that Leno had to work too hard to secure Arsenal’s goal and the score was 2-0 until the final whistle.

Arsenal for the second season in a row helped Arteta advance to the League Cup quarter-finals.

Nketiah et al will only know their opponents in the quarterfinals during the draw which will take place on Saturday (10/30). (Ant / OL-1)
